A plan a fortnight in the making

A plan generations a fortnight in the making Hi everyone    Well it has been a fairly eventful (pun intended) fortnight. I finished off all the models required for my army for Lakes of Blood, the event I participated in down in Rotorua, New Zealand. Lakes of Blood break down  Dave ran a wonderful event and I managed to do better than I expected. Given that this would be the first time I used this style of list my stretch goal was to win 3 of the 5 games. I managed to win those three games on day one (and then fail miserably day 2).   My list was: ++Battalion Detachment 0CP  (Astra Militarum)  [1320pts]++ Regimental Doctrine:  133 rd  Lambdan Lions   +HQ+ Tempestor Prime [40pts, -2CP]: Power Fist, Tempestus Command Rod Warlord Stratagem: Progeny of conflict  (Keys to the Armoury) Relic (The Laurels (Yanny) of command)   Tempestor Prime [40pts]: Power Fist, Tempestus Command Rod   +TROO...

3rd times the charm

Hey everyone, welcome back  Well as you can see from the top image, 3rd company crossed the finish line this week. But that's not where I'm starting off, because before I could finish them off, I had a tournament to prep for. This started as a doubles event, the initial plan was for me to provide the guns, had he was the push. So first up was more attack bikes to get done: This bought me up to 10 completed attack bikes, more than the 9 I was running, so I switched over to the transfers, first up the land speeders: At the same time I was working on the bases for the attack bikes, but I also added 3rd companies bases in to the mix as well. I finished up the bases and transfers for the attack bikes around the same time: I was feeling good, a couple more transfers to finish, and the army was ready, when COVID struck again. This time, a bunch of the teams lost players, and we suddenly pivoted to a friendly/compe...

A descent into madness.

A descent into madness. Last year a mate of mine Mark started a massive hobby project and ever since there has been a little itch that has needed to be scratched. I also wanted a big project to work on, but the big question is, what? (I mean also why? Why on earth do you want to do this to yourself?) I had always liked the look of Kasrkin and I was forced to buy a few taurox to convert into goliath rockgrinders for a tournament for my GSC army. I magnetised the taurox grinders and had my first models. Now to decide on what the big project should be? A full regiment of Kasrkin looked like a good challenge so I came up with a plan to do this: I picked up a few boxes of Kasrkin and worked out a paint scheme that I was happy with. I needed something that I could do pretty quickly (as the regiment will end up being 510 models), that also looked good. I had tried using contrast paints before with varying levels of success and decided to give them another try for a practice model....

Wait, where was I...

Hey everyone, welcome back.  Life caught up on me over the last couple of weeks, and I may have forgotten to post! I started off the month with a plan to go heavy into transfers and bases, so I continued on with 3rd company: Then somewhere in the middle of all this, distractions happened. Firstly, a solution to the shelving and display arrived! The top image shows the whole collection, but the chapter now has it's own location. I still want to light and paint the shelves at some point: The next distraction was slightly smaller. One of our local stores was doing a clear out of MacFarlane toys, and I couldn't resist a hellblaster.  Definitely glad I don't have to free hand 1000 chapter symbols... Throughout all this I've been discussing lists for an upcoming team event. My initial nomination from the team was for Harlequins, but post the nerfs, and with me not having the right models for t...

Downward spiral

Hello everybody  Here we are back with another update, but a quiet one this time, as life slowed painting progress again (how dare it). In practical terms, this basically meant that instead of the week I had aimed for to complete the last 40 heavy intercessors turned into almost the entire two weeks. I did manage to finish them off in time though: The exciting part, was this was a milestone of over 700 marines painted, and now less than 400 to go! It definitely feels like I'm on the downhill part of getting this project completed.  I'll be putting down the brush for a bit as I have to play some catch up with a backlog of 200 marines waiting on bases and transfers, with something like 500 needing the chapter symbol adding. It looks like the long awaited shelves have finally arrived so I can get the chapter on display. More on that next time. The other distraction from painting in the last week was a big game vs a mate. We played 4k points wit...

Darkness and light

Welcome back everyone  So I had an extra weeks gap between last post an this one, I basically had two weeks of high productivity book ending a week of lifes distraction in the middle. Let's see what got done. 7th company   First off was finishing the 7th company batch paint. This took another week after my last post. So, what did I take away from this experience? A lot of positives. First up, it took just over half the time that it would have in batches, saving about 2 weeks. That is massively worth it. When it came down to it, it wasn't actually that horrible to do, I've painted enough marines by now that it doesn't really matter how many I do at a time, and I made good progress that worked out to one color every session. That made it nice clean chunks that felt like I was making progress. There a few more places that would benefit from the larger batches that I'm going to do, 3rd companies intercessors, 8th companies assault mar...
