Riding in style -Episode 17

Hey everyone welcome back. Just a quick update this week, I'm not sure what happened with my hobby time these last few weeks, it didn't feel like I got much done. Most of the time was spent finally doing the painting in the Hobby room in the garage. The theory is that new shelving is going in soon so I had to get it ready. It only took 2 years to get finished!  When the shelving goes in I'll add some artwork etc to the walls. Once this was done I was in a rush to get my painting commitment done for Auralux campaign, I managed to get some terminators battle ready, a chaplain, a batch of bases, and a land raider fully painted. After the gaming evening I swung round and finished the highlights on the terminators. The terminators were a weird combination of a couple of squads with the weapons I needed, with one or two extras, next up is the other half of the partial squads I started. Bonus chaplain in the batch A land ...

Cleaning out a closet -Episode 16

Welcome back everyone  Well this post begins as it often does, with a mate clearing out some space marines! The friend in question is someone I have met through tournaments, Dean. Dean has recently had twins, and understandably needs extra space in his house! After some quick chats and organization, I had 3 boxes of marines in my hot little hands. What was a bit different about this lot, was the number of vehicles. It contained: 6x rhino hulls (one ruined for terrain and bits) 3x dreadnoughts  1x storm raven 30ish first born with various weapons 10 terminators  A couple of characters  This was great for finishing off a few things. The heavy weapons and some of the tactical marines went into 9th company, which now just needs the last of the command staff to be complete. Some of the left over marines went into 8th, and formed two assault squads on foot, this is probably all the assault marines I need. There are 80 assault marines, with the rest of the space...

This community is awesome - Episode 15

Welcome back everyone  One thing that has always kept me in this game over the years is the awesome people that make up our community. I've made lifelong friends through this game, had hours of fun and helped support charity through organized events. The podcast and blog has given me opportunity to meet and interact with more awesome people, so thanks everyone who listens to us on NZ40Kabal, and for reading along.  This last two weeks has given me another couple of good examples of this. I've had a couple people reach out with offers of marines, Ben found some more (see below), and another mate is getting me a list and price for some more (will see what happens here). By far the highlight was the marines that turned up out of the blue in my mailbox.  Turns out, "southern correspondent" Gary had needed a break from his project, and decided to paint up some Doom legion. He then sent these down to me. He had done the main colors to match my scheme, and left the small det...

Doug 3 -Return of the Doug - Episode 14

Welcome back! Slight episode delay this week, as between a tournament and visit from my parents I didn't really achieve that much! I only really made progress in this last week and finished up with a mad rush yesterday. Let's dive in: Spending in advance   Before I dived into the Doug buy, I picked up a cheap buy of some hellblasters and intercessors from Trademe: Good old Doug reached out to me to let me know he was clearing out the last of his marines. Did I want any? Yes. Yes I did. I had a little left in my May budget, so this became a down payment, and I'll use June and a bit of July budget to pay the rest. Unfortunately this means no other purchases for a month or so, unless I can finish off the chaos and sell them. For my money I picked up: Chaplain on bike ATV 3 outriders Ravenwing command squad 20 intercessors  10 assault intercessors  5 terminators  2 dreadnoughts  On pick up Doug threw in a couple of first born and a rune priest he had flo...

The Auralux campaign- episode 13

Hi everyone  Welcome back!  It's been a quieter couple of weeks on the painting front, but before I get to that some quick admin. Those of you who have been following from the start (thank you so much!) Would have seen that I came over from our old website which unfortunately lapsed and I lost all the content.  I have now uploaded the draft versions I had of that content and added what I think are most of the right photos. If you have recently started following along and want to catch up of the start of this journey you can now find them in the main blog with "repost" in the title.  My monthly budget has come in and has gone a couple of ways. First up I'm heading to a teams event next week. One of our team has Dark Angels, so I'll be using my harlequins. Quick update on how I go next time. Next up I went back to Aliexpress and picked up 200 32mm bases, enough to do a couple of companies worth of marines, I expect about a month for them to arrive. I have some budge...

Bikes and Bases -Episode 8 repost

Bikes and Bases -Episode 8 Hi everyone and welcome back It’s been a couple of weeks, and some progress has definitely happened! Bases One thing that had me a little nervous, was that as the chapter has been built, sprayed, and started to come together on the desk, is that the silver is very bright when en mass. Not a total surprise at all, and there are a couple of factors, one being that there is very little other colour, with most of the models unfinished, but the bases are also sprayed silver, adding to the mass of colour. Since my first 100 bases arrived, I decided to base up one of my tactical squads, to get an impression of what a finished squad will look like.  I believe that basing should compliment the model, it provides a frame, and is one of the main things that is seen when viewing the army. As always, I needed the bases to be mass produced easily, but it needed to balance out the silver. Silver, and black, two of the main army colours are very cold and harsh, so I want...
